We'd been brewing up beer in the kitchen at home for a few years. In 1995, we were informed that Ed's corporate employer of eleven years was leaving the area (NAFTA). Not wanting to move, and having had enough of the corporate world, we decided to do some research and see what was out there. At that time there were no breweries, brew pubs or microbreweries in our area. A two week vacation to Nova Scotia was inspirational.
It was the comradery of the brewers, owners and staff members that really sold us on the idea of opening our own establishment.The Micro Brewery people we've met have been generous beyond our wildest expectations, with information, how-to, where to find it, etc.
In 1997 our son Adrian joined us and we found an old machine shop, which we since have purchased. We scrounged up old bulk dairy tanks, old Grundys, and other assorted stainless equipment.
A year and a half of rebuilding and refurbishing and we finally opened for business on St. Patrick's Day 1999.
With no advertising and no sign, we immediately sold out of our small quantities and for the first eight months there was a 2 week waiting list to purchase a growler. We're now producing 14 barrels per week and have more than 50 tap handles in the Glens Falls area.
We are truly blessed. We couldn't have gotten this far if not for the help of our friends and family.
Not too many things of any substance are accomplished alone and the building of this brewery is no exception.
Help has come from many directions and we hope if we've done anything right, we've diligently expressed our gratitude to those who've given us support, assurance and guidance.
